Shimano announced today a firmware update for its Di2 electronic shifting system that addresses a rare issue affecting gear indexing in cold weather conditions below 0°C. The update, version 4.8.2, is available through the E-Tube Project app.
Affected riders reported occasional missed shifts during winter rides when temperatures dropped significantly. Shimano’s engineering team traced the issue to timing calibrations that didn’t account for the slightly increased resistance in cables and housing at extreme cold.
The fix applies to Dura-Ace R9200, Ultegra R8100, and 105 R7100 groupsets manufactured before October 2025. Riders can check their firmware version in the E-Tube app and update wirelessly. The process takes about 10 minutes.
For riders planning to update, Shimano recommends fully charging the battery beforehand and keeping the bike stationary during the update process. The company says normal riding can resume immediately after the update completes.
